Well I'd read all about it over the course of its short life but until you stand trackside and see the Audi R10 in the metal you can't really appreciate just how quiet the things are. Quiet? Sportscar? Yup...

The ultra high-tech diesel powerplants only rev to a fraction of what a typical petrol unit would do and so the noise of these cars is drowned out by every other motor out there. It truly is incredible - there are road cars out there that would be far louder than these race rockets...

Very nice shot. I believe diesel will be the future in some motorsports. Endurance racing like Le Mans an the ALMS championship show us brilliant examples how diesel can be competitive. I guess the next step for diesel it would the WRC... Just speculation! :) Meanwhile there are already some diesel cars racing in some national championships here in Europe. Let's wait and see! :D

Yeah, it's certainly going to be interesting to see how far it goes. Sportscar racing is once again at the forefront of exploration but I see there have been some diesel entries in both the BTCC and WTCC this season. Wonder how many other series will pick it up...?

Hehe... They do take a little getting used to, I'll say that much. Interesting to see, as more manufacturers join in on the Sportscar action, whether any more go down the diesel route or stick with normal fuel...
