Lights of Vegas Reprise by bigshotdan Lights of Vegas Reprise by bigshotdan
I felt like taking some photos this evening, so I went out and did just that. This is a 'reconstruction' of another deviation in my Gallery, Lights of Vegas, which was shot some four years ago. Okay, so it's a little different, but I wanted to give an idea of how things have changed in those years.

And, in a quick glance myself, it's substantial. The skyline seems to get higher with each passing year, and that is certainly true here. And there's more to come. Quite how or where I do not know...

As far as the technical aspects of this are concerned, I went for a wide open aperture to highlight the colours and especially the reflections. I'd like to do a really long exposure (bulb) but that would require a remote release. I'll get one some day...

Thanks very much! Even after all this time, I still like this one. I decided to overexpose it for the sole purpose of getting brilliant reflections. I think it worked...

i loved how the lights reflect on the water, almost like a rainbow...
the buildings are also very beautiful, but the water and those boats there seem so peaceful....

wow, very overexposed and very nice!!! i like it. It makes the rest of the scenery like the boats and the trees seem insignificant! good job! :)

Thanks so much! I love the overexposed night shot. It's so much more interesting than a 'normal' exposure; the lights and reflections make it worthwhile...

Thanks so much. This is my favourite from a night's shooting. Totally overexposed, but that's why I like it...

My city! My city! My city!

I absoutly love seeing pics of Brisbane like this. Unfortunatly I no photographer, that's for sure, and sometimes I'm on the bus coming home and I look out the window at the city and it can be so stunningly beautiful I wish I had some way to share it with the world.

Your pic seems like the answer to when I want to jump up and down and say "Look at that, look out the window everyone, quickly, you have to see it. How can you just sit there like nothing is happening!?"

I can be abit silly sometimes :blushes: but this image has illiceted alot of emotion.

Thanks so much!

Well I'm glad this has touched you. I must admit, having lived most of my life in Bris Vegas - though not now - I tended to take things for granted. That said, there were plenty of occasions I wished I had my camera on hand to snap the sights...

Thanks! I really love the clarity of this one; I just feel something about the 'original' one, from a few years ago. Just has some sort of 'glow' to it. That said, it's not nearly as crisp as the new one...

I love the colour refleced in the water. The skyline does seem to be getting better. This is really beautiful. It would make a great postcard!

Now there's a wonderful idea if ever I saw one. Maybe I should enlist some friends or family to set up a market stall back in Bris Vegas for me... ;p

Sweet shot once again :)

SO apart from a wide open apature and a long exposure nothing else?
No special filters or edits or ?

Just checking as I always want to learn to take better shots when the occations arise. Thanks ;)

I'm happy to report that there are no tricks of the trade here. Just an almost-wide-open aperture and 30sec exposure. I'd go for a smaller aperture and even longer shutter but I need a remote release to do that. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I really love the clarity here that's lacking from the old version. As for my support for =Shutter-Vision that's my pleasure - I only wish for it to continue to grow!

That's a valid point you raise... The reflections are rainbow-like in colour. Now you've got me dreaming of taking a shot after rain one evening and getting a real rainbow over the city. And the likelihood of that is..........?

What I neglected to mention yesterday is that we're currently in the worst drought in history. And that it's winter; it rarely rains in winter...

this turned out really well! I love how the lights are reflected in the water in bands of colour and how letting in so much light has made the trees light up on their undersides in a lovely green.

Thanks very much! I'm really happy with how this came out. Decided to go down the overexposed route, and it's led to some really rich colour. I think this one's so much better than the 'original' of a few years ago...
